In May 2018, we began the process of recruiting a full-time sailing manager and developing a permanent home for youth development sailing. This facility will have a classroom equipped for tuition and equipment storage areas.
By creating this facility we have been once again be able to have an intake of disadvantaged youth from neighbouring townships, to progress from learners to proficient sailors and enjoy the sport of sailing.
These youngsters will learn alongside other youth and adults from more affluent backgrounds, also undergoing sailing instruction.
We believe this has a positive effect through developing essential life skills and creating positive interaction between communities.
Sponorship kindly provided by the Jewish Maritime League makes it possible for us to run and maintain two L26 keelboats for Youth Development, in addition to our dinghy fleet.
With additional funds we can extend the reach of the programme … any additional sponsorship funds gladly welcomed!
School Holiday camps are run from time to time, to enable children fro 10-18 years of age to discover sailing. Dates are advertised on this site and through the HBYC and Hout Bay Organised Facebook pages.
